Production Stage Manager

About the Company

West Australian Ballet (WAB) is the official State Ballet Company for Western Australia

(based in Perth) and Australia’s longest running ballet company, established in 1952. The Company runs four major, main stage seasons each year as well as an extensive access and activation program to engage the public in our art-form.

The company has experienced significant growth in recent years led by Artistic Director,

Aurelien Scannella and has a steadily increasing portfolio of public and private supporters.

About the role 

An opportunity has arisen in our busy production department for a Production Stage Manager. The candidate needs to start as soon as possible and be full time.

The successful candidate will have worked in a similar position in a medium to large arts organisation and must possess tertiary qualifications in stage management or a related field, or possess relevant industry experience.

Key duties will include; Calling shows, running the stage during the season, preparing the prompt copy, running plots, props plots, scenic movement plots and follow spot plots for the efficient running of the production week and performance run.

The ability to read musical scores is highly desirable for this position.

Working closely with the creative team, production staff, venue staff, and dancers to this role is pivotal to achieve the vision of the Ballets production, ensure all aspects of stage management and on-stage conduct is consistent with the highest industry standards.

In 2018, there is one premier production and two from repertoire, with a busy 2019 season to plan.

Essential Skills & Experience

Demonstrated excellent organisational skills,
Demonstrated ability to present information in a clear and concise manner both written and orally,
Experience in maintaining databases
A demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritise to thrive in a busy and demanding environment.

  • Relevant qualifications or experience in technical production management;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and solutions focused;
  • High level verbal and written communication skills;
  • Administrative skills and demonstrated attention to detail in relation to the management of records, contracts and other functions required of this position;
  • Experience in preparing and managing budgets;
  • Relevant information technology skills (i.e Microsoft Office suite and databases)
