Production Manager, Sydney Dance Company

Purpose of the Role:

The Production Manager is responsible for the planning and delivery of all the production requirements for the Company. The Production Manager will coordinate, administrate and manage all activities of the Production Department, liaising with various departments and staff as necessary, as well as developing budgets and schedules.

Intent:
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by staff in this role.  Staff members may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.  Role Descriptions may also be modified from time to time to reflect usual growth and change of role.

Key Duties:

To provide logistical support to SDC on a range of projects including but not limited to the main stage and regional productions, leadership and fundraising projects.
To provide logistical support to SDC in a range of venues across Australia.
To provide support and advise to senior Management in the planning, manufacture and performance of productions, and organisational direction.
To participate as part of a team, specifically performing a leadership role in the delivery of SDC productions.
Facilitate, supervise and co ordinate the delivery of all resources required to manufacture, mount and tour all SDC productions.
Contract and supervise all staff and/or organisations required to deliver the productions.
Effectively plan for production requirements including budgeting, and scheduling for all productions in the calendar year.
Assess each productions requirements and manage to ensure all resources are delivered in an efficient and timely manner.
Ensure that the artistic need of all creative staff is met in an effective and efficient manner.
Through effective resource management and co-ordination ensure the on time delivery of all performances in all venues.
Manage SDC storage facilities and workshop.
Ensure and maintain a safe work environment for all staff including implementation of WHS policies across the organisation.
Call regular production meetings to plan the delivery of Company productions and events.

Selection Criteria

TECHNICAL:
Tertiary Qualifications in arts, arts management, theatre technical and production or a related field.
At least five years experience in the Production Management of mid to large scale live theatrical productions.
Broad and extensive industry knowledge and contacts.
Experience in touring of live performance works.
Proven ability to manage projects and prioritise competing demands.
An understanding of the artistic process together with the ability to work with creatives to realise their visions.
High-level computer skills particularly using spreadsheets, word processing and technical drawing software.
Ability to read, create and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Ability to keep detailed written and electronic records.
Substantial experience in the development, negotiation and management of contracts and agreements with a range of organisations and personnel.
Proven ability to deliver productions on budget whilst realising artistic vision.
