Opera Australia is Australia’s national opera company, presenting some fourteen operas annually in a repertory environment, musicals, regional tours, outdoor events and concerts. As Australia’s largest performing arts organisation, the company presents close to 700 performances annually across its diverse operations.
The Company is seeking a full-time Production Manager to join the Technical Department. The department is responsible for providing all aspects of full technical support necessary to the company’s performance schedule.
Reporting to the Technical Director, the company’s Production Managers have responsibility for the delivery of individual productions from design presentation through to realisation on stage. Productions vary from revivals to new commissions. Typically, a production manager will expect to oversight six production openings a year across the two main venues.
Opera Australia Production Managers enjoy a rare level of autonomy which reflects their oversight of all resources – financial, material, labour and scheduling – applied to any production.
To apply, you must have extensive, proven experience of production management at a complex level of achievement; you will have a highly developed understanding of the performing arts, music theatre and, ideally, opera repertoire.
You will possess sound staff management ability; well developed organisational and planning skills, project and budget management skills; effective interpersonal, communication, negotiation and teamwork skills. You should have a high level of initiative, a proven ability to work under pressure and a practical problem solving approach.
