Production Manager, Opera Australia

Opera Australia is Australia’s national opera company, presenting some fourteen operas annually in a repertory environment, plus musicals, regional tours, outdoor events and concerts. Australia’s largest performing arts organisation, the company presents close to 1000 performances annually across it’s diverse operations. The company has undergone significant and sustained growth in recent years and seeks to expand it’s resource base.
The Company is seeking a full-time Production Manager to join the permanent staff of the Technical Department. The department is responsible for providing the full support necessary to the company’s performance schedule.
Reporting to the Technical Director, the company’s Production Managers have responsibility for the delivery of individual productions from design presentation through to realisation on stage. Productions vary from revivals to new commissions. Typically, a production manager will expect to oversight six production openings a year across the two main venues.
Opera Australia production managers enjoy a rare level of autonomy which reflects their oversight of all resources – financial, material, labour and scheduling – applied to any production.
To apply, you must have extensive, proven experience of production management at a complex level of achievement; you will have a highly developed understanding of the performing arts, music theatre and, ideally, opera repertoire. You will possess sound staff management ability; well developed organisational and planning skills, project management skills, and excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills. You should have a high level of initiative, a proven ability to work under pressure and a practical problem solving approach.
