The role
We are looking for a committed and flexible leader to join the Performing Arts Leadership Team as our new Production Manager.
To thrive in this exciting role, you will possess a wealth of experience in a broad range of creative, technical theatre practices and demonstrate the ability to bring out the very best in creative production teams.
Whilst this is not a teaching role, the ideal candidate will nevertheless have a strong understanding of the educational environment, particularly in relation to an independent secondary school setting, bridging the gap between industry best-practice and our mission to provide outstanding co-curricular performance opportunities for our students.
Organised, enthusiastic, team-oriented and cool under pressure, you will manage our annual program of Drama and Dance productions, including our senior Musical at the National Theatre in St Kilda, and ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of our spaces and physical resources.
This is a full time, ongoing position, commencing as soon as possible. A willingness and availability to work flexible hours (evenings and weekends as necessary) is essential.

To thrive in this role, the successful applicant must possess the following attributes:
- Degree or equivalent experience in theatre production, ideally in an education setting
- Demonstrated experience and skills in delivering successful theatrical projects, through the design, planning, management and execution stages
- Demonstrated experience in leading creative teams, with a clear understanding of what is required from key personnel such as Directors, Musical Directors and Choreographers
- Demonstrated skills and practical experience across a broad range of technical production settings such as, but not limited to, sound, scenery, rigging, lighting, props, costume, makeup and backstage
- Proven track record in effectively managing large budgets
- Sound knowledge of industry-standard tools and methodologies to manage an extensive productions program made up of multiple productions and events of different sizes and significance
- Ability to draw on an experienced network of professional production contacts
- Thorough understanding of OH&S legislation and safe work practices
- Possesses strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with demonstrated ability to build rapport, interact effectively at all levels of the School, and build authentic, collaborative and productive relationships and partnerships
- High level written and verbal communication skills
- Be willing to be involved in all aspects of the School’s program
- Demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to following the School’s child safety expectations, principles and policies
- Hold an Employee Working With Children Check
- Hold a current National Police Check (obtained within the last 6 months)
