Production Manager

The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) – Tasmania’s Orchestra – is one of Australia’s leading performing arts companies and part of the DNA of Tasmanian cultural life since 1948. In 2020 the TSO entered its most innovative and entrepreneurial phase yet, embracing digital possibilities to connect with audiences not only throughout Tasmania but across the globe. The post-2020 world has given the TSO the potential to reach a larger and more diverse audience than ever before and beyond through our digital network.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As part of our longer-term business strategy, we are now seeking an experienced production professional to lead our production team forward and manage all production and technical aspects ensuring all rehearsals,  performances and a broad range of other TSO activities are successfully set-up and executed in our new digital environment as well as our traditional platforms. This will include performances at a variety of venues, touring, and recordings.  Due to its small size and flexibility, no two weeks are the same at the TSO.

Bringing your previous production expertise in the live performance arena to the TSO, you will introduce best practice delivery solutions and leadership to the TSO production team. Your application should clearly confirm your previous leadership and management experience in both training and mentoring, performance management and resource allocation.

You will require sound decision making and high-level communications skills, as well as an attitude for embracing continuous improvement.  Previous experience in challenging work environments, including conflict management and negotiation skills, is essential.

Reporting to TSO Director Operations,  you will assist to ensure that all professional levels of service are met including a thorough knowledge and understanding of safe WH&S practices, such as completing risk assessments, inducting new staff in WH&S processes and keeping all production staff up-to-date with regards to WH&S.
