Production Manager

  • Salary of $80,000 + super

The Production Manager works with our brilliant team to deliver the Museum of Old and New Art’s Music activities onsite at Mona as part of the Mona Music program, as well as assigned projects for the Festival of Music and Art (Mona Foma) and all-round support the Production and Operations team. Reporting to the Head of Production and Operations, the Production Manager is a core part of the planning, budgeting, and delivery team for projects for the Mona Music program. The role also requires a hands-on approach to production and operations, with a willingness to assist regularly and actively with loading gear, setup and sound operation.  The role required regular out of hours, weekend and on-call work to support the live events of the Music Cluster. The role is one of leadership, holding stakeholder relationship management aspects, project oversight, delivery accountability, and risk management responsibilities. The role manages a pool of Music Crew (who deliver sound, logistics and artist liaisons for all events onsite).

The Gig:

  • You’ll be responsible for all requests for production, technical and operational elements for Mona Music and Mona Foma, ensuring details are collected, organized and communicated in a clear and timely manner, along with overseeing production and site requirements.
  • You’ll lead a pool of Music Crew to deliver production, logistics and artist liaisons for all Mona Music and assigned Mona Foma events.
  • Coordinate closely with our programming team to ensure timely drafting and distribution of schedules, technical specifications, and other related production information.
  • Manage the sourcing, maintenance, and construction of project resources, equipment, and creative elements as required.
  • You’ll be hands-on too, with the delivery of artist liaison requirements, set up and other aspects of event delivery, including loading and unloading of gear, operation/movement of equipment for performances.
  • You’ll ensure the working order of our equipment and negotiate with suppliers for additional technical and equipment requirements.
  • Support the Head of Production and Operations with administrative requirements of the Production and Operations team. 
  • Work with the Safety and Wellbeing team to ensure projects comply with relevant Workplace Health and Safety legislation and Mona policies, including risk management.
  • Liaise with companies and freight agents regarding all aspects of the transport of equipment and other project items.
  • Develop, monitor, manage, and reconcile assigned budgets and timelines, collating data and providing regular reports for assigned projects.
  • Actively contribute to and participate as a member of the Mona Foma & Mona Music team, assisting with the implementation of plans and objectives in line with the Cluster’s overall vision and artistic goals.
  • You’ll participate in continuous improvement activities by conducting regular assessments of processes and incorporating learning into development plans.
  • Work closely with Mona Stakeholders or Head of Production and Operation in the applications for any permits and licenses required and the creation of related documents.
  • Other duties as may be required to support the producing and administration of Mona Foma and Mona Music.  Regular out of hours, weekend and on-call work are required, as is the nature of the beast.


The You:

  • You’ve got strong and recognised experience as a Production Manager (or related technical experience), managing events or arts projects in a festival or arts organization context.
  • You’ll be leading a team of Music Crew, so experience leading people, managing rosters and developing a positive culture will be highly regarded.
  • We’ve got a fully loaded schedule so you’ll have an ability to simultaneously manage numerous complex and diverse tasks.
  • Demonstrable experience working with communities on arts projects.
  • You’ll be working with many departments and external parties so your strong interpersonal skills and proven track record of developing productive relationships with stakeholders, contractors, artists, companies, and industry partners are essential!
  • A collaborative and flexible approach to problem-solving and information sharing is also essential.
  • Your excellent organisational and negotiation skills (contractual arrangements and supplier deals) will see you thrive.
  • Successful track record of managing accurate and informative budgets and schedules for complex projects, including risk management.
  • You’ll tie up your package with exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) and a high competence in Word, Excel, and database programs.
