West Australian Ballet is the State’s flagship dance company, performing a dynamic and extensive series of classical and contemporary dance works and programs in Perth, regional Australia and internationally. The Company runs four major, main stage seasons each year as well as an extensive access and activation program to engage the public in our art-form.
About the Role
Working closely with the Technical Director, the Production Manager is responsible for coordinating and executing the preproduction and production for all WAB productions.
Key duties include:
- Managing all aspects of the WAB pre-production and post-production processes
- Coordinate all production builds throughout the design process, through to construction and installation.
- Draw plans for all WAB productions and builds
- Ensuring all WAB works are resourced appropriately within the set timeframe and budget.
- Work with all performance venues to deliver high standard productions.
- Assist in the in the development and implementation of all WAB tours
- Assist with WAB’s inhouse events
- Coordinate all freight movements for the Technical Department.
- Assist the Technical Director with the development of performance risk assessments.
- Assist the Technical Director with the development of annual budgets
ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA
- Candidates must possess relevant tertiary qualification and/or a minimum of five years’ experience in a similar position in a performing arts organization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of all technical aspects of professional theatre production, including planning, negotiating, and managing production processes, set and costume builds and negotiation with creative teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work within budget and tight timeframes.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a production schedule within budget, timeframe, and award.
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills
- Strong understanding of WHS in the theatre craft
- Experience in supervising small and large crews
- Working knowledge of relevant industrial awards and legislation, including the Live Performance Award, Performer’s Certified Agreement and relevant WHS legislation and policies.
- Proven experience working as part of and managing small teams in a fast moving, creative environment instilling a high-performance and supportive culture.
- Proficient with the Microsoft suite of software (Word, Excel & Outlook) and QLab.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills, able to work independently and with authority of the Technical Director.
- Must possess a current driver’s license
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- A knowledge of the Western Australian performing arts environment.
- Experience with the Vectorworks CAD program or other CAD software.
- Experience developing production budgets for theatre
- Experience in international and interstate freight forwarding.
- Experience in production management for Dance.
- Performing arts touring experience.
