Production Coordinator

Position: Production Coordinator (0.8 FTE)

Salary Range: $65,000 – $75,000 

Orchestra Victoria is seeking a motivated and proactive individual to apply for the position of part-time Production Coordinator. The Production Coordinator is part of a small orchestra operations team responsible for the technical and staging operations of Orchestra Victoria’s performances and other activities. The Production Coordinator will work closely with musicians, partner company management, artistic staff, contractors and the wider Orchestra Victoria team to deliver high quality events. The Production Coordinator will have technical and orchestral knowledge, be able to work on their own initiative, take on responsibility and will fit into a small team working to a consistently high standard. 

This position is based in Melbourne but may require travel within Australia. To apply for this role, you must have the right to live and work in Australia. 

About Orchestra Victoria  

Orchestra Victoria is one of two specialist opera and ballet orchestras in Australia. Established in 1969 as the Elizabethan Melbourne Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria is the performance partner of The Australian Ballet, Opera Australia and Victorian Opera. The Company performs regularly in the State Theatre and other professional venues in Melbourne, Victoria, and from time to time performs interstate with its national performance partners. 

Beyond its activities in the theatre pit, Orchestra Victoria also presents concerts and education workshops in metropolitan and regional Victoria. Orchestra Victoria has performed in partnership with The Australian Ballet for over 40 years. In 2014 Orchestra Victoria became a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Australian Ballet. 

What you’ll be doing 

  • Duty management for OV performances and rehearsals 
  • Coordinate production and operational requirements of the orchestra, including concerts, collaborations, recordings, auditions, as well as commercial and philanthropic events. 
  • Coordinate instrument and equipment requirements, maintenance and hires 
  • Supervise and train new Casual Operations members in consultation with the Head of Operations and Planning 
  • Ensure Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to, and that noise readings are gathered, documented and communicated as identified through risk assessment procedures 


Selection Criteria: 

  • Experience working in the orchestral or arts sector, preferably orchestral operations and/or production 
  • Knowledge of orchestra performance practices and instruments 
  • In-depth understanding of audiovisual, sound and lighting equipment, particularly audio monitoring and/or recording equipment 
  • Experience managing venues, including liaison with internal and external clients 
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work well in time- pressured environments 
  • Ability to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends, and travel with the orchestra as required
