Production Coordinator

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is looking for a skilled Production Coordinator to join our hard-working Operations team!

POSITION PURPOSE

Reporting to Chief Operating Officer, the Production Coordinator is responsible for coordination of production and technical requirements of allocated MSO concerts and events, stage set-up, stage changes and pack downs, as well as many aspects of the Orchestra’s OHS systems. The position is also responsible for maintaining the Orchestra’s store, assets and equipment, and coordinating equipment hires and loans.

The Production Coordinator is also required to provide production and technical support to all aspects of the MSO as required and is a full-time ongoing position.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  •         Set up and pack down the orchestra as well as stage changes
  •         Coordinate the external Hires of MSO instruments
  •         Coordinate the piano booking schedule for the MSO
  •         Coordinate the cartage of all MSO instruments and equipment for relevant events.
  •         Coordinate MSO projects as allocated
  •         Actively reduce the Occupational Health and Safety risks to the company
  •         Coordinate the consumables inventory
  •         Upkeep and maintenance of instruments and equipment including insurance registers

KEY RESULT AREA & MAJOR ACTIVITIES

  • Orchestra set up requirements: coordinate the day to day running of the orchestra for rehearsals and performances; coordinate venue communication on technical and logistical aspects of concerts and events; consult with musicians of the orchestra on orchestral layout.
  • Performance and event duties: coordinate production and event requirements for allocated MSO events in consultation and collaboratively with MSO staff and within approved budgets; perform on-stage duties during rehearsals and concerts, including stage management, as required.
  • Orchestral assets: Coordinate external and internal instrument and equipment hire and loan; coordinate the insurance of all MSO and musicians instruments and MSO equipment, as well as maintain accurate and up-to-date assets registers.
  • Administrative duties: Assist with rostering MSO production team as required to deliver events; assist in development of budgets and completing reconciliation and tracking of budget lines as directed.
  • Occupational Health and Safety: work with management and other team members to ensure that all occupational health and safety (OHS) risks are minimised through awareness and application of safe working practices.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Relevant staging experience in concerts and/or theatre including knowledge of technical aspects of lighting and sound
  • Experience in working in an artistic environment including communicating with performers and carrying out on-stage duties
  • Workshop skills for construction in wood, metal and other materials.
  • Experience in general repairs and maintenance of orchestral or similar equipment.
  • Experience with computer systems including Word, Excel and Database systems.
  • A current WWCC, or the ability to obtain one. fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or hold an authorised exemption
