Production Coordinator

Opera Australia (OA) is Australia’s national opera company dedicated to enriching Australia’s cultural life with exceptional opera and musical productions. OA is dedicated to delivering outstanding performances as the resident company at the Arts Centre Melbourne and the Sydney Opera House, and through touring across the country. OA has a range of major projects supporting the future of opera as a contemporary offering, extending the reach of its art-form to new and emerging audiences and of connecting appropriately with specific communities around the nation. 

About the role 
Joining Opera Australia’s Technical Unit, we are looking for a Production Coordinator who will provide hands-on support and administrative assistance to ensure the department itself and it’s production processes run smoothly. 

The Production Coordinator will help deliver the artistic vision and give support to the technical elements of the production, providing hands on operational support as required.
 
Key focus areas

  • Providing support to the Production Managers and the wider Technical Unit to ensure clear communication and the smooth running of the department itself
  • Implementing of systems, processes and policies; providing recommendations to improve efficiency where possible
  • Collecting and collating of production documentations and relevant information; preparing accurate department documentations 
  • Coordinate financial processes for productions and staging, including budgetary costings
  • Liaise with the Production Managers to deliver Production Health and Safety documentation 
  • Coordinate productions communications, including but not limited to crew schedule changes and updates with venues
  • Supporting the administration process for venue contracts, equipment hire, manufacturing contracts, as well as contracting of new staff and expressions of interest
  • Supporting the wider Technical unit as a whole including Production Managers, Operations Managers, Manufacturing and stores teams, and other staff across the company as required

Our ideal candidate will have

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in project or events coordination, preferably within the theater and performing arts sector
  • Tertiary Qualification in arts, events management, or related industry preferred 
  • Current Drivers licence
  • Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail
  • A self-starter who can collaborate within a team and work well independently
  • The ability to coordinate production crew and operational staff in a timely manner, aligning to deadlines and delivery schedules
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the production and project process from inception to bump out
