PixPads supply flexible room wash for ballroom

Scenechange in Hobart have installed twenty-five ShowPro PixPads with 252 Diffusion Gel into the Hotel Grand Chancellor’s Federation Ballroom to be used as room wash. Added to that are ten Pro Shop LED Strips.

“The Pix Pads are used for room wash as well as normal room lighting,” explained Steve Fraser, technical director of Scenechange Tasmania. “The versatility between a show look and full control over conference session is great – basically they look after every lighting state we need. For example, in one of the photos there is a half room conference session taking place; we couldn’t use the fluoros in the venue to do a half room but we could the PixPads. We’re still finding interesting uses for them and the boys there love working with them.”

The PixPads provide a very professional level of features whilst still remaining affordable, portable, lightweight and extremely useful. They provides both high levels of light output, which you can use as a standard wash type fixture, yet supplies even colour across all of the pixels which you have individual control over. This means the PixPad is going to feature in a large amount of your shows, events and installations.

“The colours are insane and because we put the gel into them the spread of the light and the blending is just perfect – it’s just beautiful,” added Steve. “And the punch they deliver is amazing.”

With individual control of each RGB pixel, the PixPads can be used to scroll text and advanced colour chases. However there is also a large number of on-board programs which can run in stand-alone mode to ensure a simple and quick set up when required.

“We have done some pixel mapping with them but look forward to doing a lot more,” remarked Steve. “I suspect there are still 101 more uses to be found! From what I have seen, most people have used them for pixilation, big long strips and funky looks onstage, but we’re using them mainly as wash lights.”
