Performing Arts Technician

Cornish College is seeking a talented and experienced Performing Arts Technician to join our team. In this part-time role, you will be responsible for supporting the technical and production needs of our vibrant performing arts program.

What you’ll be doing

  • Liaise with Performing Arts teachers as to the requirements for a given day/week
  • Be familiar with the Performing Arts calendar and assist performing arts teachers with event logistics, such as moving, setting up and preparing equipment in collaboration with the AV Technician
  • Maintaining a Performing Arts inventory (musical instruments, costumes etc)
  • Manage instrument repairs and maintenance
  • Manage costume cupboard order and maintenance
  • Assisting in the maintaining of all Performing Arts areas, both aesthetically and functionally
  • Archiving Performing Arts materials
  • Music ordering and processing through the Finance Department
  • Maintenance requests
  • Manage purchasing of educational resources and maintaining stock levels (reeds, strings, etc)
  • Other tasks as required
  • Assisting with collation of Performing Arts materials such as posters, programs, videos and booklets


What we are looking for

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to exhibit multi-tasking and work both independently and as a team member
  • Proficient ICT skills including Adobe Final Cut Pro would be advantageous 
  • Ability to manage the physical aspects of the role including loading and unloading sound, set and lighting equipment
  • The flexibility to deal with the unexpected
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, and an ability to be able to effectively communicate with students, parents, teachers, external agencies and support structures.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a school environment would be advantageous
  • Demonstrated understanding of PA and lighting systems would be advantageous
  • With all these tasks it is the expectation of the College that staff will work collaboratively to share responsibilities as evenly as possible.
  • Current Working with Children Check for Employment purposes
  • Current Police Check will be required on employment
