Peavey Introduces New Aquarius AQ Series Active Loudspeakers

Peavey Electronics has announced the introduction of the new Aquarius AQ Series that includes two active loudspeakers — the AQ 12 with a 12-inch woofer and AQ 15 with a 15-inch woofer — both housed in a trapezoidal cabinet with two extra angled sections on either side that allow for use as a floor monitor.

They are outfitted with a Peavey DX 14 compression driver tweeter with 1.4 inch titanium diaphragm coupled to a 110- by 80-degree proprietary Quadratic Throat Waveguide. The bi-amped power section is stated to provide up to 1,000 watts of audio power (670 watts for the woofer and 330 watts for the compression driver), with signal compression to help prevent audible overload and clipping. A low-noise fan provides cooling.

The 56-bit/48 kHz DSP provides dynamic bass boost and crossover functions, driver limiting as well as driver EQ. On the back panel, six EQ presets are accessed via a one-knob rotary selector switch. Preset choices include Live Music, Club/DJ, Stream/Playback, Monitor, Acoustic, and Voice. There’s also a balanced TRS quarter-inch input that can connect to a mixer or an output from a media player as well as a balanced XLR input that allows for linking of additional speaker systems or feed of the signal to a powered subwoofer.

A dynamic microphone can be connected directly via the XLR input and accessed via the Mic/Line switch. Alternatively, a Bluetooth signal can be streamed in with a separate control for signal level adjustment.

Both the AQ 12 and AQ 15 have injection-moulded plastic enclosures with a moulded-in pole mount. Cabinets include three handles for ergonomic transport and a powder-coated perforated steel grille provides component protection.
