Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and “the contribution and suffering of all those who have served”. Various memorials are held throughout Australia on the 25th of April to mark the occasion and this year was no different. For this year’s Anzac Day, Fat Sound was contracted to provide lighting for a special memorial service held at HMAS Creswell on the shores of Jervis Bay NSW.
Fat Sound specialises in high-performance sound and lighting, and has provided professional production to the Australian music industry for over 23 years. Fat Sound has worked with some of the foremost names in the music industry, growing from a “one man in a van” size PA system to providing for major headliners and outdoor festivals. Ray Eberle, Managing Director of Fat Sound needed a LED Ellipsoidal for the event that would be powerful enough to light up a Royal National Navy crest that would be placed upon a tree 200 metres away and an IP rated fixture for outdoor conditions. Ray went to Showtools International and had a look at the CHAUVET Professional range. After testing and looking at various fixtures, Ray decided to acquire the Ovation E-260WW IP LED Ellipsoidal.
The Ovation E-260WWIP provides standard shutter assembly and lenses lend familiarity and ease-of-use to this groundbreaking IP65-rated ERS-style fixture with an output surpassing that of 750 W HPL. This groundbreaking ellipsoidal also boasts extremely smooth dimming down to the very bottom of the curve as well as a flat and even field of light for superior gobo projection which was perfect 
for this job.
“Not only did we need a fixture which could deliver the output needed over this distance, but one which could withstand the conditions of cold air, coastal conditions and condensation at 4am. Other fixtures we have used in the past fogged up on us. So we chose the CHAUVET Professional E-260WW IP on static with a glass gobo, the tree with the crest being approximately 200-250 metres away,” stated Ray.
“We used the Ovation E-260WW with a 26 degrees lens and the result was a sharp and clear image. Considering it was a tree flickering, it also gave it a 3-D effect. As the guests arrived they couldn’t make out what it was until they were on axis and realized what it was, which really blew the guests away! The added benefit was the fixture was IP rated which was excellent as the memorial was held outdoors, and the ellipsoidal would have been equipped to handle all different weather conditions that may have presented on the day,” Ray explained.
Because of the success of the Ovation E-260WW IP for the Anzac Day event, Ray has decided to add a bunch of these fixture to his ever-growing inventory. With the addition of the fixtures, Fat Sound now has added another powerful fixture to their inventory to handle events as evidenced by capability of the E-260WWIP for the Anzac Day Memorial.
