Opera Australia is Australia’s national opera company, presenting some fourteen operas annually in a repertory environment, musicals, regional tours, outdoor events and concerts. As Australia’s largest performing arts organisation, the company presents close to 1000 performances annually across its diverse operations.
A number of seasonal contract positions are available for Stage Mechanists (Level 1) within the Technical Department of Opera Australia. The current period of engagement is for the duration of our Sydney Winter Season at Sydney Opera House from Monday 16 June until Monday 1 September 2014.
Applicants are required to meet the following selection criteria:
o Demonstrated experience working as a stage mechanist, preferably within repertory theatre.
o Possess basic rigging and construction skills
o Basic understanding of Mechanist role requirements.
o Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively within teams and across sections to ensure completion of work.
o Physical fitness, agility and ability to work at heights and in confined spaces safely.
o Good oral and written communication skills, and appropriate levels of English; well- developed interpersonal skills.
o Common sense and initiative.
o Good understanding and practical knowledge of safe work methods including training in manual lifting.
o Holds a current NSW Workcover White Card.
