Tuesday saw a brave but cold gathering warm up inside Sydney’s Royal Oak Hotel where ENTECH hosted the first of several gatherings, pretext being ‘have a drink and play tech trivia’. Old and new faces met up and faced off in teams for the contest. Tech Trivia isn’t just head-spinning technical questions, this one has general knowledge as well, curated by quiz guru Kate Mckenzie.
After 24 questions spread across sound, lighting, video, power and general topics, Croquette Bolognaise and The Blank Watch tied. Ben Hurworth, Roderick van Gelder, Brandon Pietzsh and Jimmy den Ouden of Croquette Bolognaise successfully answered the ’triv-off’ tiebreaker question: ‘Which is the Northernmost capital city in the world?’ Which is of course Reykjavík. The team scored a bottle of fine wine each.
Everyone answered the wattage question, ‘At 240v, how many watts are 4 amps?’ as 960 watts. Simples. But most struggled with the collective noun for a group of flamingos which is ‘a flamboyance’. While this does sound trivial, the networking before and after saw old and new faces join up to talk shop. Julius enjoyed a lengthy conversation with a girl about audio who had no idea of his experience level, other than he was probably 50 years older than she was.
ENTECH Community next convenes in Melbourne on Tuesday 18 June, and concludes Tuesday 25 June in Brisbane. The gatherings are free and open to anyone with an active interest in professional entertainment and installation tech. Registration is essential, at www.entech-roadshow.com/community
