Munarra Centre for Regional Excellence

OBJECTIVE

The Munarra Centre for Regional Excellence was established through a collaborative effort involving the University of Melbourne, Rumbalara Football Netball Club, Greater Shepparton Council, the Kaiela Institute, and the Academy of Sport, Health, and Education. With an investment exceeding $30 million from the Victorian Government, the Centre was designed to combine innovative architecture with state-of-the-art technology. Its primary goal is to serve as a vibrant cultural hub that fosters education, engagement, and connection for First Nations people in the Goulburn Valley region.

TECHNOLOGY ENHANCEMENT: SOUNDPLUS® IR T2 SYSTEM

To further enhance accessibility and inclusivity, the Centre implemented the Williams SoundPlus® IR T2 System, a commercial grade, medium area infrared transmitter. Leveraging Williams’ years of infrared audio expertise, the IR T2 provides a broader and more powerful coverage pattern, which eliminates the need for additional secondary units. Its sleek and compact design makes it an ideal fit for the Munarra Centre’s conference rooms, educational spaces, and event areas, where it supports assistive listening and language interpretation. The SoundPlus® IR T2 system offers 50 percent greater coverage than previous models, ensuring effective audio delivery in the centre’s larger meeting spaces without compromising quality. In addition to the SoundPlus® IR T2, an induction loop system was installed to provide discreet, personal hearing assistance. These systems ensure that individuals with hearing impairments can fully participate in cultural events, workshops, and educational sessions.

SOLUTION

To meet the centre’s goals of flexibility and accessibility, advanced audiovisual systems were integrated throughout the facility. Along with the SoundPlus® IR T2 and induction loop, key components included Williams AV products like the WI-IRSY4 Medium Area Infrared System and WI-NKL001 Neckloop. These devices were deployed across the facility’s meeting rooms, event spaces, and communal areas to provide clear, inclusive audio experiences for all attendees. The facility also features meeting spaces and boardrooms designed to support both physical and remote presentations, enabling students and visitors to connect with educators and cultural leaders worldwide. Additionally, a zoned public address system and background music create a welcoming atmosphere, while room booking panels and digital signage enable smooth navigation and quick access to available spaces.

IMPACT

The Munarra Centre for Regional Excellence is transforming the educational landscape and expanding community opportunities for Indigenous Australians in the Goulburn Valley. Through Williams AV’s assistive listening solutions and Diversified’s advanced audiovisual technology integration, the Centre promotes an inclusive environment that encourages collaboration, communication, and cultural expression. These enhancements directly support the Academy’s mission to improve education and community development for First Nations people, establishing a space where education and cultural heritage can thrive together.
