Lighting tech Katie Louise Broadbent, who worked at The Clock Tower Theatre and the Monash Theatre and previously at the Kingston Performing Arts Centre, was killed on Australia Day whilst attending a music festival as a punter.
A man, 24, of Lake Bolac, was charged with culpable driving, dangerous driving resulting in death, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to render assistance, and driving under the influence of alcohol. He had driven over Katie’s tent and left her for dead.
Friends say she was awesome. “She was keen to learn and would do anything you asked her to do. She had great feel at the console and a fantastic attitude”, said Linda Krive.
The festival itself was a private event for 300 people on the farm of a well known district familiy. The community of Rochester are devastated by the accident, according to the Bendigo Advertiser.
The performing arts community, and Katie’s friends are hosting a memorial at 3.30pm FRIDAY JANUARY 31 2014 at the Standard Hotel in Fitzroy. The funeral is in Katie’s home town of Adelaide on Tuesday.
Everyone sends their deepest condolences to her family.
