Michael Goodyear, IT & Events Technician for the Department of Education & Communities at Manly Selective Campus, is responsible for teaching students how to control lighting.
“We recently realized our console had reached the end of its capabilities as our use of intelligent lighting grew,” he commented. “We started to look for a console that would set us up for the next several years at least. We looked at a few different choices but for our budget and needs, the Martin M1 console was definitely the best option.”
Michael reports that the M1 console has opened up more opportunities in terms of what his students can produce for shows, and it delivers a lot of flexibility.
“I really like having the jump in abstraction the console offers,” he added. “You have a console that understands what it is doing as opposed to controlling each DMX channel individually. It may be a fairly obvious thing to say but it really makes the control much more efficient.”
According to Michael, he usually only needs to show his students around the console once as it is so simple to learn.
“Once they sit down to play with it, they’re flying around it in no time,” he said. “It’s actually quite amazing to see.”
