Mandylights Light Jamie xx // In Waves Tour

We’ve been working with Jamie xx for the last two years, looking after his live shows all across the globe. It’s been nine years since he released his last album and “in waves” is just embarking on a new world tour which we are excited to be a part of.

We designed a headline Alexandra Palace show in September with two sold-out nights for Jamie to play his whole album in the iconic London venue. Our visual design centred around a projection-based show that immersed the crowd in an array of different waves content that had been animated from the album’s artwork.

Simple audience trusses featuring GLP JDC-1 strobes and Robe Fortes lined the room to work alongside video and create a balance between the precise, intense projection and the brighter club moments. This, combined with 20 Ayrton Cobras to light the 2.2m wide mirror ball which, when revealed, received a huge reaction from the crowd.

Jamie’s show is notoriously completely live – never playing the same set twice – so Show Kontrol is an integral part of the Mandylights FOH set-up to give our team as much notice as possible of upcoming songs as each show’s set evolves.

We employed the help of Bild Studios in to handle the projection mapping of the venue ahead of giving control to Chase O’Black to run all his custom content via resolume.
