LX Productions were commissioned to light the entire façade of the St Kilda Sea Baths in red to welcome the arrival of the 20th International AIDS Conference to town and they did so with eight Pro Shop LED Flood EX36 fixtures with wide lenses and four Pro Shop 15 x 15w outdoor floods. Incredibly they managed to do so using just half a circuit of power!
“We estimated the façade was 100 metres in length so using only half a circuit of power was amazing,” commented Darren Holborow, owner of LX Productions along with Andrew Davies. “The install has been out there for three weeks during hail and 100 kilometre winds, with trusses rigged in trees closest to the Sea Baths and the EX36 have performed flawlessly.”
Darren admits that initially he wasn’t too sure about purchasing some EX36 floods as he thought the light output was rather directional but when he was shown the wide lenses the interest grew.
“It’s a very solid fixture and there has been a huge improvement in the design of the yoke, and the floor mounted unit is fantastic,” added Darren. “It’s also silent and obviously it has the white chip in it which is another big win. It’s very compact and the menu system is better, the data cables are better – pretty much the whole lot is better! Weight-wise they’re quite good and the output is fantastic, I’d estimate the output is 25% brighter than its predecessor.”
Darren reports that his EX36 floods arrived the day before the planned install at the Sea Baths and they were up and running perfectly in no time. He also revealed that the company had not intended on purchasing so many but got a bit carried away.
“After seeing just the one demo model it was a bit of a punt but they have done their job and we’re very happy,” he said. “We’re also very happy with the four Pro Shop 15 x 15w outdoor flood we purchased.”
LX Productions now own sixteen Pro Shop LED Flood EX36 fixtures and Darren is planning to use them a lot more for indoor events.
“Where we may have used LED PARs for lighting indoor roofs we can now use less fixtures with the EX36’s,” he said. “I think they’ll also be a good alternative to the normal cyc lighting.”
LX Productions also supplied, on behalf of Corporate Vision Australia, eight EX36 floods with standard lens kits to wash Federation Square in red.
Darren purchased his Pro Shop equipment from Bishop Audio, his preferred supplier for several years.
