Joe Kovac of JJJK Entertainment Sound & Lighting Geelong runs a small local sound and lighting company in Geelong specialising in all things from sales and hires of equipment to event production.
What would you normally be doing this time of year?
We would normally be in full swing of event production providing sound, lights, video and more to our local pubs, clubs and outdoor events up to 5,000 people.
What’s a fairly normal day at the moment for you?
A normal day for me at the moment is arriving at the office in the morning to make phone calls to see how we went with installation and production quotes hoping that one of our clients requires our services. Luckily, we have also been able to fall back on security installations.
Are you learning anything to improve your skills set?
We have taken a few short courses to refresh our memories and upskill.
What bad habits have you slipped into?
To be honest none.
How are you coping financially?
We are struggling a lot. We aren’t able to meet the minimum requirements for JobKeeper and the small grants we have received have just back paid overheads to date.
When do you think live entertainment with return and in what format?
I think we will start to see it return in early January but with limited caps and strict guidelines.
Do you have any words of encouragement?
We’re all in this together. Hopefully, we will all make a comeback and there won’t be too much damage caused by this pandemic.
What makes you happy at the moment?
Having a social life back, being able to make time to see friends and family now that restrictions are starting to ease.
