About the role
As a member of the Technical Services team, this position provides technical support to events and performances at all venues within the responsibilities of the Cultural Venues Unit. The Technical Support Officer actively assists in hirers, producers and performers by ensuring high-quality technical support for their events. Key responsibilities include skilled operation of venue systems, including but not limited to lighting, audio, audio visual, hybrid meetings, and fly systems, facilitating bump-ins and bump-outs, ensuring backstage areas are operational, and maintaining technical equipment to the highest standards.

The role combines hands-on technical work with some administrative responsibilities, to support the smooth running of events, while upholding safety and compliance within the venues. This position sits within the Cultural Venues unit under the Arts, Events and Cultural Venues Department of the Planning and Liveability Directorate. The team focuses on delivering exceptional technical and customer support, ensuring venues meet the operational needs of performers, hirers, and audiences.
Reporting to the Team Leader Technical Services, this role involves working alongside other technical, operational and administrative staff. While the position does not have direct reports, there may be opportunities to supervise resources or provide on-the-job training to colleagues.

The role is full-time with hours rostered, depending on operational needs. After hours and weekend work is required due to the nature of events and performances. Flexibility around working hours may be available. The role works across Wyndham Cultural Centre, Encore Events Centre and Wyndham City Civic Centre with travel between sites required.

What your day will look like

  • Deliver hands-on technical support for events and bump ins/outs, including operating lighting, audio and stage systems during rehearsals and performances
  • Conduct regular maintenance and safety checks on technical equipment to keep systems reliable and functional
  • Maintain safe and organised backstage and technical areas, ensuring all spaces are performance-ready
  • Support hybrid online meetings by managing live streaming systems

What you will bring

  • Technical Theatre Qualifications (lighting & audio) equivalent to a trades certificate, Certificate III, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education training as demonstrated by a candidate’s knowledge, skills and prior experience
  • Experience working in the theatre or entertainment industry in backstage technical operations
  • Desired qualifications: Elevated Working Platform (EWP), Dogging/Rigging License, First Aid

If you progress past the interview stage, you may be required to complete pre-employment screening, which may include police checks, a medical, qualification verification, and an Australian work rights check.
