Lighting Workshop Technician

The Lighting Workshop Technician is responsible for providing advice and support to Sydney Theatre Company in relation to the design, build and operation of scenic and practical electrical components and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Lighting Department workshop. The role will provide specialist advice on electronics to Sydney Theatre Company and its stakeholders across a range of theatrical productions. The role works closely with Lighting Supervisors, Creative Teams, Production Managers and other members of the Production & Technical Departments.

The Lighting Workshop Technician works under the supervision of Lighting Supervisors and reports directly to the Lighting Manager.

 Hours of Work

This position is for a one year fixed term contract.

The ordinary hours of work are 38 hours week. However, the nature of working for a theatre company and requirements of this position require a degree of flexibility, and will include overtime work.

The position will be based at our venues, The Wharf & the Roslyn Packer Theatre in Walsh Bay, and our stores in Lilyfield.

Wages and Entitlements

The wage will be commensurate with a level 5 full-time employee as defined in STC’s Enterprise Agreement 2020-2022.

5 weeks annual leave (pro-rata)

Complimentary tickets to STC productions (subject to availability)

10.5% superannuation

Selection Criteria

Competency in testing and tagging to AS/NZS 3760

Electrical qualification desirable.

Experience in theatre lighting production desirable.

Experience in design and build of set electrics.

Experience in maintenance and repair of electronics, and theatrical lighting equipment.

Good knowledge of Lighting technology and systems for live performance.

Understanding Work Health and Safety legislation and procedures as related to the theatre and entertainment industries.

Strong computer skills with previous experience in CAD and inventory management applications desirable.

Ability and willingness to work safely at heights.

A self-starter with a dynamic approach to improving processes and systems.

Forklift license desirable.
