The Mackay Entertainment & Convention Centre (MECC) is seeking an experienced and motivated Lighting Technician to join our high-performing Technical Services team. This is a critical operational role within the Convention Precinct and Events Program, supporting a diverse range of conferences, theatre productions, festivals, and live events.
About this opportunity:
As the Lighting Technician, you will play a key role in the delivery of high-quality lighting services across the MECC’s venues and events. You will operate and maintain theatrical, stage, and conference lighting systems to recognised industry standards, collaborating closely with Technical, Festival, and Operations teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Operating and maintaining a wide range of stage and conference lighting systems
- Delivering lighting designs, effects, and technical support for productions and events
- Assisting hirers, clients, and presenters to ensure seamless event delivery
- Responding promptly to equipment issues and ensuring adequate stock levels
- Maintaining backstage spaces, cleanliness, and safe work environments
- Working collaboratively across departments and performing Venue Supervisor duties when required

- Demonstrated experience working with theatrical and conference lighting systems
- Strong technical competency and problem-solving abilities

- Ability to work within tight deadlines and adapt to changing eventneeds
- Commitment to safe work practices and effective teamwork
PAID QLD Working with Children Blue Card – It is an essential requirement for this position to hold a Working with Children Blue Card. A current QLD “C” Class Driver’s Licence and the ability to work flexible hours (including days, nights and weekends) are essential for this role.
