Lighting Supervisor

Join our team!

The Lighting Supervisor ensures the efficient operation of NIDA’s theatre lighting staff and resources to support the needs of NIDA as an Australian Educational Institution for higher education, short courses, corporate training and of NIDA’s venues as a commercial performing arts centre under the NIDA Theatres banner. The position requires a highly organized technician with leadership and supervisory skills, a demonstrated knowledge of theatre lighting equipment and a commitment to using their knowledge and skills to support NIDA’s teaching environment. The role is a rostered 76-hour fortnight as required based on the venue’s requirements.

About You

  • Experience in lighting in a similar role in a producing performing arts company, touring production, or theatres complex.
  • Expert knowledge of lighting technology and systems for live performance.
  • Demonstrated experience in specifying, installing, and operating complex lighting in a live production environment for a range of event types.
  • Computer skills including Vectorworks or CAD, general I.T. networking and Office365 suite.
  • Proven ability to take responsibility, work independently and exercise initiative to prioritise several tasks at once to adhere to tight schedules.
  • Experience in managing a crew for day-to-day repair, maintenance, and operation of lighting equipment.
  • A willingness to take a hands?on approach where necessary.
  • Flexibility to work across nights and weekends as required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Proven communication experience with multiple competing stake holders in a diverse organization of Staff, Students, Artistic Professionals, Clients, and contractors.
  • A high level of understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation and procedures as related to the theatre and entertainment industries with proven experience of implementing these requirements in a sympathetic manner.
  • Has a working with Working with Children Check or ability to show a valid check prior to starting.
  • Strong lighting programmer skills in a range of live performance contexts

About the role

This is a full-time 2-year contract.

The base annual salary will depend on experience + 11.5% Superannuation.

Please note

  • You are required to have the right to live and work in Australia to apply for this role.  This role is not suited to a working holiday visa holder.
  • A valid Working with Children Check for NSW is essential.  Having one or being willing to get one and to support and implement NIDA’s Child Safe Strategies is necessary to undertake this role.
