Seeking experienced and motivated lighting, sound and audio visual technicians
SunPAC is seeking motivated theatre technicians experienced in Lighting, Sound and Audio Visual (or in combination) to help build on our success as a leading arts and cultural centre and multicultural community hub in Sunnybank on Brisbane’s Southside.

About SunPAC
Architecturally striking, SunPAC has staged over 800 performances, shows and events since opening in October 2016, and entertained over 125,000 visitors throughout the centre which boasts a 300-seat theatre, soaring Skyview Foyer, private meeting room and alfresco SunPAC Green. SunPAC is proudly supported by Brisbane City Council and the Sunnybank Community and Sports Club.
As well as a year-round program of musicals, live theatre, and family and educational activities, SunPAC has hosted signature events including Summerfest, Brisbane Festival’s Street Serenades, 4MBS Festival of Classics, and the Brisbane Comedy Festival. Reflecting its surrounding community, SunPAC is a multicultural hub with Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese, Indian, Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi, Fijian, Polynesian, Filipino, Malaysian, Maori and Islamic communities taking advantage of the centre’s professional facilities to stage events, performances and cultural celebrations. SunPAC Technical Staff
POSITION DESCRIPTION
About the Role: Provide consistent, high-quality services to all clients, ensuring the smooth delivery of events and have a passion to lead a team and willingness to go the extra mile for guests.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Along with the Venue Supervisor, all staff are responsible for ensuring the provision of a safe and efficient venue for all staff, clients, patrons, and members of the public visiting the Sunnybank Performing Arts & Cultural Centre (SunPAC).
Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, ensuring employee productivity, monitoring efficiency of all processes and creating a positive work environment for employees. Quality and consistency of good customer service and processes. Quick thinking on your feet for a variety of situations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:
- Trained and act as Chief Fire Warden (CFW) [if required]
- To attend or host pre-event briefings with staff ensuring to cover key points advised in the event brief
- To ensure the smooth running of the technical aspects of the theatre’s day-to-day operation
- To operate sound and / or lighting and / or audio visual and other effects during performances
- To organise hanging and setting of lighting and, or sound equipment, acquiring and setting up props, masking etc. on stage
- Delegate tasks and duties to fellow staff
- Flag important issues on event reports
- Ensure employee productivity is met and staff are completing event tasks efficiently
- Act as first aid officer as required
- Go through venue lock-up procedures with Venue Supervisor to ensure all tasks are complete and venue has been cleared
- Monitoring processes for efficiency and creating a positive work environment for fellow employees
- Using initiative on the day if a client requires additional items to ensure client is happy and event runs smoothly
- Rubbish removal, mopping stage and vacuuming back of house areas
- Return all equipment and settings back to standard to assist with next booking run sheets
- Oversee general venue security and flagging with the Sunnybank Community and Sports Club Duty Manager or night security any suspicious activity or issues
Requirements
- Chief Fire Warden and Emergency Evacuation Training
- Working knowledge of Chamsys MQ250M Stadium lighting console and / or Allen & Heath dLive audio mixing system and / or Roland vision switcher
- Team Management Skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including weekend, nights and public holiday work
- Recording any near misses or incidents in iAuditor
- Occupational Health and Safety
- Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times
- Rectify immediate hazards if able to do so
- Record all accidents and incidents in IAuditor
- Adhere to SunPAC Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures
Skills and Experience
- Excellent theatre knowledge and experienced use of modern lighting, sound, audio visual and related technical equipment
- The ability to work in a team
- The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Strong communication skills
- Working at Height ticket or competency
- Excellent presentation and personal grooming standards
- Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service
- Blue card
- First Aid Certificate [ Preferred]
