Lead Technician -Staging – Multiple Roles

$76,447 pa plus 12% super plus overtime available

Adelaide Festival Centre operates four theatres in the Adelaide CBD – the Festival Theatre, Dunstan Playhouse, Space Theatre and the newly redeveloped Her Majesty’s Theatre.

About the vacancy

As we prepare to reopen following our redevelopment, Adelaide Festival Centre is looking for technical theatre professionals to join its Staging Department.

Lead Technicians have comprehensive skills and experience in live entertainment productions and events, and good ability to maintain, repair, test and install all associated departmental equipment in order to provide technical assistance to the Head of Department and support Adelaide Festival Centre’s Production Department to ensure desired outcomes are achieved

Lead Technicians proactively assist the Head of Department and Deputy Head of Department in achieving administrative and production outcomes.

Lead Technicians can work unsupervised, however their work is under the direction of a Head of Department.

These roles are full time and being offered for three years in the first instance. 

Responsibilities

Lead and manage the pre-production preparation of venue, bump-in and out, rehearsal and performance held in  AFC venues.

Work closely with the client to interpret requirements and work with Production Coordinators and Heads of Departments to ensure outcomes are achieved, including the preparation of paperwork pre- and post-show e.g. Charge Sheets.

Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the technical capabilities of all AFC venue and ancillary areas.

Manage all equipment correctly for production use.  Check equipment for damage or loss and initiate procedures for repair or replacement. Inclusive of on-the-spot fault finding and rectification if possible.  If necessary, arrange for repair internally or externally.

Ensure crew complete time and attendance requirements to accurately to reflect work performed.  Contacting crew if they do not show attend a shift on time.  Reporting to the Deputy or Head of Staging crew that are late or do not attend their shift. 

Advise management of required maintenance works such as painting stage, tidying of storage areas.  Advise and implement required pre-production tasks and large-scale maintenance works.  e.g. Readying equipment, painting of stage, meeting with crew staff, inspections and certification of equipment.

Employees working at this level are expected to be able to work totally independently, inclusive of the setting up and running of performances and events and be able to resolve issues that arise.

In association with Deputy/Head of Department – Staging, educate/train/guide/ develop staff in all aspects of staging including safe work practices.

Prepare, modify, apply and interpret paperwork without supervision or direction and be able to assist other staff to do so.

Regularly check all rigging within venue, ensuring tags are up to date and equipment is in a serviceable condition in particular Front of House rigging.

Competencies and Skills

Completion of appropriate Certificate III or Certificate IV tertiary qualifications or commensurate skill and experience.

Suitable technical qualifications from a tertiary institution or equivalent knowledge and experience

Comprehensive knowledge of work health and safety

Possess effective reading, writing, computing, and listening skills to ensure instructions and standards are understood and implemented.

Ability to work within a team environment.  Work cooperatively with other staff, supervisors/managers and touring organisations.

Possess a sound understanding of the entertainment industry, its terminology, traditions and protocol

Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships at all levels
