Lead Technician (Lighting)

About Us: dplr Pty Ltd is a full-service production, technical and event management company based in Sydney NSW, servicing metropolitan, state and national projects, including but not limited to outdoor or indoor festivals and events, theatre shows, music concerts, technical installations and builds, and environmental design.

The Role: We’re on the lookout for a problem solving Lead Technician who’s hands on and keen to join an ambitious team. Our technical team looks after all elements of an event from staging and truss to all things technical, but we’re looking for someone who’s main passion is lighting. In this role you will be managing teams to install small shows and finding your place in a huge team to bring your skills forward and make our shows as good as they can be. There’s plenty of room to grow in your career at dplr and we love to support our staff with skills sharing formal training and opportunities to get licenses and accreditations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Operate and manage lighting and audio-visual gear at various events, making sure everything looks and sounds great.
  • Install and set up lighting, staging, and AV systems with precision.
  • Keep track of equipment inventory—prep orders, manage stock, and ensure equipment is looked after on site and back in the warehouse.
  • Lead and support junior tech staff and casual contractors, guiding them to success.
  • Plan and design technical systems to streamline processes and ensure seamless on-site execution.
  • Stay hands-on by cleaning, addressing, and testing equipment, and prepping all necessary accessories and spares.
  • Utilise your problem-solving techniques to find solutions for our clients and colleagues.
  • Improve workflow and efficiency in the lighting department, both in the warehouse and on-site.
  • Jump in where needed—whether that’s building stage and truss systems, running cables, or rolling looms.

Location: Our warehouse is based in Waterloo, with projects covering the greater Sydney area and beyond.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years of experience in technical roles related to lighting, audio, or visual equipment.
  • A valid Class C Driver’s License.
  • Forklift license or willingness to get certified.
  • Experience with Grand MA3 lighting control systems and network protocols (Artnet, sACN) is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills and a knack for leading a team.
  • Passion, Personality and Professionalism!

Bonus Points For:

  • Specialised licenses like EWP, MR, or HR, and Test & Tag.
  • Experience with Vectorworks or a willingness to learn.
  • A Senior First Aid Certificate.
