Blending the worlds of futuristic design and organic shapes, Vivid Sydney’s Kia Helix was bold, angular and mesmerising. This bespoke structure showcased Kia’s latest halo EV concept car – the Kia EV9 – in an animated show set to a crescendo soundscape celebrating a balance of innovation and intuitive, natural design.
Working with Kia Australia under the creative of Studio Messa, SimpleMotion designed, engineered, manufactured and installed the 6m stage to display the 2.5Ton Kia EV9 concept car with finishes and surrounds by Chopt Studios adding to the experience.
The car weighed 2.5T so the stage centre line was engineered to take 2T point load with 4T overall.
It is a completely immersive experience with a lighting display, LED video and the car itself performing a timed show set to music. SimpleMotion also integrated the specialist features of the car with bespoke electronics and interfaces allowing the lighting system to control the doors, headlights, interior lighting and dash of the car.
SimpleMotion provided the lighting and audio production elements to enhance and highlight the car and Reelize Studios supplying the LED Mesh backdrop with all content and soundscapes.
Jono and the team used their new Roxx B.Show Mini fixtures for the colour wash. The battery fixtures, (connected to hot power on this occasion), also feature wireless DMX onboard, to make for an easy setup. They are also completely IP rated, so no problem being outside for the whole festival.
Video, lighting and audio were synced via timecode from Touch Designer. The lighting and car were controlled via Chamsys MagicQ. Lighting on the trussing included 12 x Roxx B-SHOW Minis with VN lenses, 2 x ProLights JZIP IP Profiles and 2 x Event Lighting PAR19X12O PARs whilst the dias was lit by 6 x SML Outdoor ArchiSpots.
Audio was an Allen+Heath QU-Pac with a custom Artnet driver for level and mute control. The car was controlled via UDP triggers via a custom DMX to UDP interface. The audio, to compete with a loud outdoor environment on a small activation, comprised 2 x Martin Audio SX118 18″ Subs, 2 x Martin Audio T1230 Array Cabinets for FOH and 4 x Quest MX601 for front fill supplied by Red Globe Productions.
