Jon Stevens’ The Noiseworks & INXS Collection Tour

Jon Stevens is hitting the road with a show jam-packed full of hits, hits and more hits. The Noiseworks & INXS Collection tour showcases the best of Noiseworks’ smash hits and Jon’s favourite INXS songs, tracks that earned him a whole new fan base from his time fronting the band.

For lighting designer Glenn Falloon there was no design brief from the artist, only that it needed to be achievable to deliver it with minimal crew and efficient to bump in/out. It also needed to be as high impact as possible within budget.

“I set out to design a rock show with lots of big looks filling up the stage to compliment the relentless number of big songs in the set,” said Glenn. “There are A LOT of big hits in this show and the challenge was to keep up with the high energy of the show and the songs whilst trying to keep it interesting dynamically throughout the show offering new vibes with a limited number of fixtures.”

The touring rig is supplied by Glenn’s company Chrome Productions whilst The Enmore show also had some extras hired in from Six5 productions in Sydney.

The main spots overhead are Acme XA400 Spot Pro as Glenn is a big fan of these lights saying they are super punchy with a great zoom range and fast for a spot.

Overhead moving wash at The Enmore was Acme Cm400z although generally for the regional shows in-house LED Pars or moving lights, depending on what was available at each venue, are used.

At the rear of the stage, there are two layers of pipes underhung from the rear truss with 16 x GLP X1s. There are also four Phillips Nitro LED strobes on one of these pipes. Eight Chauvet Shocker 2 LED blinders are spread throughout the rig in the air for that big blinder look.

On the floor, there are eight Acme SABER mini beams described by Glenn as small but punchy as hell! Also on the floor are four Martin Rush LED strobes across the back two risers.

Haze was from a pair of Look Solutions Unique 2.1 and control was a Hog4 Nano and PC running Artnet to stage.

“The programming for this show was mostly done in lockdown!” explained Glenn. “Like many shows, this tour had been rescheduled several times so there was lots of extra time to work on it. It was designed and programmed in Pre Vis in my office at home, then we did a production rehearsal in my warehouse for a couple of days before heading out to start the tour.

“The band is such a tight unit musically that there were very minor changes once we got going.”

“There are a few favourite moments in the show I would call my favourite lighting look but if I had to pick one it would probably be the all-white chorus for the song Take me back by Noiseworks. Just feels like a huge look and always looks like a lot more lights than there are! It’s also a crowd favourite which always is enjoyable to see people up and loving being back at shows after all the Covid craziness.
