JAS’ Martin MAC Aura XIP Make Their Mark

For many years, Johnston Audio Services has built its reputation as a full-service audio company. However, it has recently established itself as a complete solution provider by creating a moderate-size lighting inventory.

Managing Director Bruce Johnston decided to add a dozen Martin MAC Aura XIP premium moving head wash lights to his inventory. The MAC Aura XIP offers saturated washes and detailed blends thanks to its twelve RGBW aura filaments, pixel control with video mapping capabilities and an optimised light engine for more accurate coverage and minimal stray light.

“Initially, I was looking for a brand that would help my mid-range lights look better when I was quoting!” said Bruce. “Before the purchase, I spoke to a few lighting people, and they said that the MAC Aura XIP is a good all-rounder. Because I’m not a 100% lighting company, I needed something that can go outdoors, is lightweight and is rider-friendly. The MAC Aura XIP is very versatile, and even an audio guy like me knows that Martin is an industry leader known for reliability.”

Bruce has been impressed by the MAC Aura XIP’s performance, describing it as a great little workhorse that ensures uncompromised coverage and output in any weather condition. However, the XIP also thrives indoors due to its low-noise operation, ultra-quiet cooling system and a dedicated Theatre/Broadcast mode for sound capping at 25.2 dB.

Bruce soon discovered that the bonus to stocking such a popular and reliable fixture is that JAS constantly has its MAC Aura XIPs on cross-hires, making an excellent return for investment.

Adding Martin MAC Aura XIPs to JAS’ inventory is a significant step for the company.

“In the past, we’ve quoted on audio for a gig only to lose the gig as the organiser has gone with a 360 production company, so adding lighting was an important move for JAS,” commented Bruce.

JAS’ MAC Aura XIPs have already made their mark on the Melbourne festival scene and were the star of Dreamstate Melbourne’s Stage 2, where all twelve were positioned at the back of the stage to create stunning effects and Goodthings Festival.
