On the eve of the Covid-19 lockdown American electronic music sensation, Illenium returned to Australian shores with his biggest shows to date in support of his chart-topping album Ascend.

Habbit, who focus on live entertainment events bringing together all necessary technical elements for promoters or an artists teams, provided full-service technical production and event management for the tour. Habbit has worked with some of the worlds largest acts in the dance and hip-hop music scene for their shows in Australia.

The show played at Melbourne’s The Forum, Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion and Brisbane’s The Fortitude Music Hall – a venue George Kostopoulos, Habbit’s Managing Director and Production Manager for the tour, was particularly impressed by.

Lighting designer Chuck Williams toured his B-rig in Australia which was supplied by Creative Productions, who also supplied the LED Screens. The rig consisted of 15 x James Thomas 2-Light Molefays, 22 x GLP JDC1 Strobes, 26 x Robe Megapointe, 16 x Robe Robin BMFL Blades, 4 x GLP Impression X4 L and 14 x Robe Spikies. Control was 1 x MA2 full-size, 1 x MA2 light and an MA2 NPU.

“The GLP JDC-1 and the Robe Megapointes were definitely my favourite fixtures – but Lumina’s Kvant lasers were definitely a crowd favourite,” commented George. “The whole show itself is a perfectly pieced together sensory explosion, nothing was overdone and everything happened at the right time in order to pull the right crowd attention. Lighting, lasers and visuals gave each other their champion moment to showcase their piece equally in each song, tied together with an impactful bass hit that you could feel in your chest from at the back of the crowd.

Audio was supplied by JPJ Audio in all three venues as they are in-house with the rig consisting of L-Acoustics K2 and SB28s with an Avid VENUE SC48 at FOH.

The team travelled with about 13 cases of backline and playback for the whole tour with additional gear brought in locally in each State.

“The Creative team were very flexible in making the show happen and JPJ were already in-house at each of the venues, even if they weren’t, they’d be my go-to regardless for audio,” said George. The professionalism from both Creative and JPJ’s crew were exceptional and made the touring party comfortable without needing to lift a hand.”

Lumina supplied 6 x 25w Kvant Lasers and 6 x 3w Kvant Lasers in Melbourne and Sydney whilst Saturday Enterprises in Brisbane supplied 4 x 6w Kvant Lasers and 4.x 3w Kvant Lasers.

Foti Fireworks supplied SFX including 6 x G-Flames, 6 x Co2 Jets, 2 x Confetti Blowers and 6 x Streamers Shots.

“My favourite part was the song “Crashing” featuring Bahari,” added George. “The breakdown in the track to the build-up and how it was displayed visually proves that Chuck (Lighting), Will (Lasers) and Sandy (Visuals) visually see music and how to make it react with lighting, lasers and visuals. An absolute goosebump and hair raising moment for me and any footage you watch from the Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney shows will prove that by the crowd’s reaction.”
