Heide’s much-loved sculpture park was activated over the summer months with an outdoor event series designed to support local performing artists, youth bands and cultural festivals. The series has been supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria. The Heide Summer Festival includes a series of jazz performances by Victorian-based jazz artists across three Sundays in January, curated by the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, held from the 17th January to 7th March.
In order for the festival to go ahead with the various acts and performers, the festival needed a stage to suit as well as lighting. RTR Productions were contracted for the event and used The Eurotruss Truss System, Nivtec for the stage and CHAUVET Professional fixtures for the lighting rig supplied by Showtools International.
“The stage is a custom stage design (6m x 4m) where we used Nivtec stage decks and Eurotruss HD34 square truss,” stated Cris from RTR Productions.
Cris explained, “This particular stage/cover set up has been designed by our team and engineers to be used where we have restrictions on the use of plans and equipment. The HD34 truss bolts onto the Stage via custom base plates and it is also secured to a 880kg ballast on each leg (the ballast is hand loaded so no fork required).”
Cris said, “With excellent load capacity on free spans of 18m (59 feet) which can be used as tower elements, Eurotruss D34 and HD44 uses the 3mm wall thickness in the maintube which assures durability and extra strength. It is designed for high-frequency usage or installations, which demands higher loading. In addition, Eurotruss has a superb fast connection system with the pin and egg system, which optimizes and makes set-up for any event more efficient.
Cris also commented on the Nivtec System, “The great aspect of the Nivtec Staging System is with the adjustable legs we can set it up on uneven grounds and we normally do a stage-high from 300 mm to 900mm, providing great flexibility.”
With the lighting, RTR utilised 8x CHAUVET Professional COLORdash Par H12IP static wash lights. The COLORdash Par H12IP is a compact, yet powerful IP-rated RGBWAUV LED wash delivering a beautifully mixed, soft field of richly saturated colours. It features a user-friendly OLED full text display. IP rated connections for power and DMX make setup a breeze.
“We used 8x CHAUVET Professional COLORdash ParH12IP to uplight the truss legs (Upright) which are cladded in OPAL Polycarbonate, plus few more COLORdash Par Hex’s used as “eye candy” and stage wash,” said Cris. “This rugged RGBWA-UV LED wash for events is great for indoor/outdoor flexibility with its IP rating and it’s at home in any weather conditions with IP rated power and DMX connections. This is great considering the event is outdoors.”
