About the vacancy
As we continue to deliver a strong program in 2024, Adelaide Festival Centre is looking for a suitable individual to undertake the full-time role as technical theatre professional in the Production Sound Department
Reporting to the Head of Department – Sound, this position is responsible for provision and operation of equipment and system support for performances in our venues and Festivals.
Head Sound Technicians have comprehensive skills and experience in sound engineering of live entertainment productions and events. Good ability to maintain, repair, test and install all associated Sound department equipment.
Head Sound Technicians are expected to model respectful behaviour to the team and lead by example in both job delivery and attitude.
Head Sound Technicians adhere to all applicable Adelaide Festival Centre and State Government of South Australia policies, procedures and work methods.

Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Sound bump ins and outs, rehearsals and performances of shows and events
- Coordinate and participate in rehearsals and performances of productions and events
- Lead and manage Sound crew ensuring all policies and procedures around employee entitlements and WHS and Risk are adhered to
- Liaise and interpret client requirements for productions, instigate actions that will achieve stated objectives and where appropriate, provide solutions
- Prepare, modify, apply and interpret show plans and documentation
- Undertake operational roles within the department including rostering, quoting and equipment logistics and hires
- In association with the Head of Department – Sound educate, train, guide and develop staff in all aspects of Sound including safe work practices
- Manage all equipment for production use, including checking equipment for damage or loss and initiating procedures for routine maintenance and repair
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of technical capabilities of all Adelaide Festival Centre venues and ancillary areas
- Communicate with Production Coordinators and other departments to ensure effective outcomes are achieved for Adelaide Festival Centre clients
Competencies and Skills
- Significant experience as an Advanced Sound Technician in the theatrical and/or live performance industries
Elevated Work Platform certificate - White Card – current certificate
- Demonstrated knowledge of designing, configuring, optimising line array systems of leading professional brands.
- Ability to consult, collaborate and effectively communicate and provide advice to a broad range of people in a range of contexts
- Knowledge and experience of networking practices for live events including Audio over IP implementation desirable.
- Knowledge and experience of BOH and FOH communications, intercom systems and fiber-based media networks for video, audio, and data signals
- Possess an understanding of the entertainment industry, its terminology, traditions and protocol
- A commitment to the delivery of excellent customer service
- Experience within a multi venue arts centre
- People leadership and team building skills
