Head Projectionist and Technical Supervisor

The Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace, Cremorne, is Australia’s premier independent cinema and theatre, playing host to exclusive premieres, Q&A events, book launches, film festivals, live music and comedy events featuring international guests and screening the most eclectic and diverse selection of films in Sydney.

About The Role: 

The Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace is looking to fill the role of Head Projectionist and Technical Supervisor.

Responsibilities of this role include working closely with the Operations Manager to ensure the smooth running of The Orpheum’s technical and maintenance requirements and to provide our guests and clients with a professional, high standard cinema and live event experience. You are required to be proactive, have attention to detail and possess excellent communication and organisational skills. You will also be required to work well under pressure. You will also be required to keep on top of all safety requirements and keep WHS documents up to date.

Basic Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Working closely with the Operations Manager and Events Manager

·       Programming Cinema playlists for the weekly schedule

·       Ingesting of DCP content & KDM management

·       Troubleshooting & basic servicing of projection equipment

·       Running sound & lighting for high profile Q&A’s, comedy nights, live bands and stage intro events

·       General building maintenance and contractor supervision

·       WHS Monitoring and Paperwork

·       Supervision of casual projection team

·       Heavy lifting of Portable staging, lighting and sound equipment required

·       Must have flexible availability on Weeknights and Weekends

Experience Requirements (Preferred):

·       Basic to Advanced Sound Engineering Knowledge (eg. A&H SQ series)

·       Lighting tech experience (eg. ONYX MP-C/GRAND-MA)

·       Rigging of Lighting and Sound Equipment

·       WHS risk assessments and contractor induction paperwork

·       Microsoft Word doc/Excel

·       Self-management and organisational skills

·       QLab experience a plus

·       Digital cinema/Projection (Dolby/NEC/Doremi/Screenwriter)

·       35mm/70mm Film experience a plus

·       Client & Customer facing experience

The ideal candidate will have the above experience but there is some flexibility and additional training available for the right individual who my lack some of the preferred experience.

Candidate is required to be dressed in blacks and well-groomed at all times.
