Head of Technical and Production

Established in 1973, Adelaide Festival Centre is South Australia’s principal performing arts venue and a leading Asia Pacific cultural centre. Adelaide Festival Centre operates four theatres in the Adelaide CBD – the Festival Theatre, Dunstan Playhouse, Space Theatre and the newly redeveloped Her Majesty’s Theatre. 

About the vacancy

The Head of Technical and Production is an integral part of the Adelaide Festival Centre Executive Team, tasked with overseeing the operational and strategic development of the technical theatre function. 

Reporting to the Chief Operating and Financial Officer, the Head of Technical and Production is the subject matter expert on all aspects of meeting the staging, sound, lighting, stage management, wardrobe and production administration requirements of our theatre hirers. The role supports the team to provide pragmatic, cost effective and logistical solutions to all Adelaide Festival Centre internal and external customers.

The successful candidate will be an effective leader and mentor and will foster a positive team environment. 

This is a rare senior technical theatre management opportunity for someone who has demonstrated capacity to embrace and deliver positive outcomes and cultural change. Industry knowledge, enthusiasm, dynamic leadership, a passion for innovation, superior negotiation skills and sound internal and external stakeholder relationship management are integral to success in this role.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A consultative team building style with the ability to accept responsibility for making decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High level understanding of the entertainment industry and its terminology.
  • Exceptional knowledge of contemporary theatre technology.
  • Extensive experience in an arts/entertainment production environment in a technical capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large teams of technical personnel.

Appropriate tertiary qualifications and comprehensive knowledge of WHS legislation and risk management and their practical application in an arts/entertainment environment is desirable.
