The Head of Automation and Staging leads the delivery of high-quality automation and staging technical production services within all Geelong Arts Centre venue and performance spaces. This role provides specialist technical expertise to support presenters deliver live events and performances.

This position coordinates the conservation of the Centre’s automation and staging assets, including systems and equipment servicing, maintenance schedules, operating information and storage and retrieval to ensure equipment is operational and ready for service.

The Head of Automation and Staging leads the day-to-day operations and supports the development and performance of the automation and staging team. Additionally, this position provides supervision of the broader technical team and operates lighting and audio-visual equipment for pre-production, rigging, rehearsal, performances, recordings, and de-rigging of shows and events in line with budgeted schedules.

Please Note: This role is offered as a two-year fixed-term, full time appointment. Pending government funding it is intended that, if successful in their appointment, the appointed candidate will have their contract renewed for a further two-year period. Following this renewal the opportunity to have the position become permanent, ongoing will be made available to the successful employee.

Selection Criteria

? Minimum 3 years’ experience as an automation and staging technician (preferably working in the entertainment or live performance industry)

? Tertiary qualification in Live Performance or relevant field desirable

? Industry-leading expertise of automation, rigging and staging equipment used in live performance, and experience applying this knowledge to successfully achieve and create specific staging and artistic effects

? Proven contribution to the overall professional effect of productions and experiences and applying this knowledge for different situations, venues, and performance scenarios.

? Experience in maintaining safe systems of work, including ability to identify hazards and risks and consult, communicate and resolve OHS issues.

? Highly developed stakeholder engagement skills, with a positive diplomatic approach, flexibility of style, and the ability to establish productive working relationships with a variety of people.

? Availability to work outside of normal business hours including evening, late nights and weekend work will be required as part of the normal hours of duty.

? Working with Children Check

? Intermediate rigging qualification or higher
