Head of Staging

Brisbane Powerhouse is Queensland’s home for contemporary culture, a magnificent power station of the 1920’s reborn as an arts centre on the Brisbane River. With over 1,250 performances and events each year, we are one of the busiest arts venues in the Asia-Pacific region. We offer a year-round program of music, comedy, dance, film, visual arts, in-conversation, digital, theatre, musical theatre, and produce some of Queensland largest events.

Brisbane Powerhouse features two main stage theatres and seven additional performance venues, gallery spaces, two restaurants and bars, corporate facilities and one of the best river views in Brisbane.

To enable us to do produce such events and experiences we are looking for an exceptional Head of Staging to be part of our Technical Team.

Here’s a snapshot of your day:

Our mission is to create a sense of wonder and joy for Brisbane’s people, and as one of the team, there will be no such thing as a typical day!  One week might be delivering the staging for a live performance, another week an art installation. However, on a day-to-day basis, the role will involve:

  • Provide staging, rigging and mechanist services and advice across a range of activities taking place within or on behalf of the Brisbane Powerhouse precinct
  • Operate all venue installed staging, rigging and Mechanist equipment, stage lift, dock lift, gantry crane and any registered plant and infrastructure related to the provision of staging  services within all BPH precinct venues
  • Ensure all work is carried out following the obligations detailed in the Workplace Health and Safety Act and Regulations
  • In conjunction with the Technical Director and other Technical Services staff, assist in building and maintaining an efficient, skilled, and motivated casual staff base to fulfill Brisbane Powerhouse’s production requirements
  • Contribute to ensuring the provision of a safe and effective venue for all staff, theatrical and event clients, patrons, and members of the public visiting Brisbane Powerhouse
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining all facilities management controlled external rigging, lift and crane facilities
  • Provide hands-on event assistance to other technical staff to support the delivery of all events and productions produced by and within the BPH precinct
  • Ensure casual staff remain customer focused with attention to detail and delivery

Can we inspire you to join us?

There’s very little that can beat the excitement and joy of a live performance, festival, or art installation – except being part of the team that makes them all happen.  We’re a dynamic company that is passionate about our mission to further the Brisbane arts scene and be good stewards to a building that has had so many different lives and touched so many people.  The role brings a variety of experiences that are difficult to match in this city, and we look forward to hearing from you.

To apply, please upload your resume and cover letter outlining your suitability for the role in direct relation to the position description.

This role will close at 5 pm on Friday 15 October 2021.  To view the full position description, please visit our Employment Page.
