Head of Production – Performing Arts

The Head of Production is responsible for providing operational leadership to the Company’s Production Department. In consultation with the Director, Technical, Production & Wharf Renewal as they lead the day to day operations of the production workshops. They drive the production scheduling and delivery within the Company’s production parameters which are provided to each production’s creative team. They ensure that proper planning, costing and rationalisation is carried out during the design development and construction period.

The Head of Production will lead the production workshops and coordinate with Production Managers and Head of Departments to ensure all Production deliverables, budget and deadlines are being met. They will ensure efficient use of production resources and production personnel. They will oversee the company warehouse facility at Lilyfield. The Head of Production will ensure the Production Administrator and Costume Manager is supported in managing timesheets and leave of the Production workshop teams.

Hours of Work

The usual hours of work are 35 hours week. However, the nature of working for a theatre company and requirements of this position require a degree of flexibility, and will include evening work and occasionally weekends.

Salary and Entitlements

  • Salary is dependent on skills and experience
  • 4 weeks annual leave
  • 11.5% Superannuation
  • Complimentary tickets to STC productions (subject to availability)

The position is based at in Walsh Bay at the Wharf and the Roslyn Packer Theatre.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum of ten years relevant experience, preferably within a producing theatre company.
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent industry training.
  • Excellent leadership skills with a proven ability to lead teams and manage people.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent project management skills with a logical and analytical approach to planning and the allocation of resources.
  • The ability to remain calm, professional and positive under pressure.
  • A good eye for detail and quality control to ensure that all elements of a production are produced to the highest standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of theatre practices, terminology, etiquette and theatre craft.
  • Strong financial management skills with a proven ability to manage and control large budgets.
  • A high level of understanding of Workplace Health and Safety legislation and procedures as related to the theatre and entertainment industries with proven experience of implementing these requirements in a sympathetic manner.
  • Experience of touring productions either domestically or internationally.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD.
