Head of Lighting/Technical Supervisor – Lighting

About the role:

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Head of Lighting/Technical Supervisor-Lighting will assist in the preparation and undertaking of various operational duties for the diverse range of productions and events staged at SCT for execution to the highest possible standards.

This role will assist internal and external creative teams achieve their artistic vision within agreed timelines and budgets to the highest possible standards. 

The day to day:

  • Work with and alongside the SCT Technical team, visiting creatives and Production Managers of individual productions to realise the production’s lighting requirements/needs and ensure the design is presented to the highest standard within allocated resources.
  • Maintain and test all lighting equipment.
  • Recruit, manage and schedule freelance and local lighting technicians.
  • Train new and local crew to operate and maintain the venue’s lighting equipment.
  • Provide costings for individual production’s lighting requirements to the Technical Manager as needed.
  • Source lighting equipment hires and purchases as required, within agreed budgets.
  • Assist with production load-ins and load-outs.
  • Provide show cover as needed and act as Duty Technician during performances as needed.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Demonstrated experience in an equivalent role working in a large-scale venue.
  • Comprehensive understanding of lighting equipment, power distribution and networking.
  • Extensive experience operating a Grand MA3 console and other industry-leading lighting consoles.
  • Strong knowledge in moving light technology.
  • Experience communicating production and event requirements to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prior experience working with production budgets to deliver live events under time constraints and on budget.
  • Basic knowledge of Computer Aided Drawing software (CAD), ability to read and interpret plans.
  • Must have First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain).
