Salary Range: $66,550.35 per annum. Higher salary may be negotiated depending on the applicant’s skills, qualifications and experience.

At our Cairns Performing Arts Centre (CPAC) you will witness innovative and debut performances in addition to a well-crafted mix of classics and revived theatrical pieces. With multiple performance spaces across the CPAC site, the versatility of the venue enables the presentation of a variety of events including theatre, concerts, music, dance, contemporary circus, opera, film and comedy. Our premier facility houses two venues, the main theatre with a seating capacity of 940 people and the studio with a seating capacity of 400.
We also have our fabulous Munro Martin Parklands (MMP), Cairns’ newest community gathering place complete with an outdoor performance space. The Parklands boast tropical plantings, vine-covered pergolas and arbours and an open-air plaza to encourage passive, casual use of the facility.
An exciting opportunity is now available for a creative, talented & suitably qualified and/or highly experienced Head of Lighting and Systems Technician who will provide a professional, high-quality specialist production service across our Cultural Services venues to ensure that all events are presented in line with our high?class standards.
The individual we are seeking will be a high performing, but cool under pressure problem solver who is highly skilled in all aspects of Lighting and Technical Systems. You will also be a proactive leader who is approachable and passionate about the arts and entertainment industry backed by demonstrated capabilities and experience in lighting.
About the Gig:
Reporting to the Technical Director, the primary objective of this role is to:
- Produce and direct the delivery of high-level lighting services for the CPAC and MMP Precincts and Cultural Services external events; including but not limited to technical operations, equipment and maintenance in accordance with the objectives of Council’s Policy Arts and Cultural Facilities.
- Undertake the day-to-day management of all lighting and system aspects associated with venue operations and to ensure high quality technical and production service delivery primarily at CPAC and Munro Martin Parklands.
- Take a leading role in maintaining and managing the provision of back of house operational services on a day to day basis and ensuring the lighting and system needs of all centre users and hirers are met.
To be successful in this role you will require:
- Relevant qualifications with significant demonstrated experience working with Lighting Systems.
- Effective working knowledge of the planning, financial and technical aspects of operating a Performing Arts Centre.
- Demonstrated high-level understanding and experience in the operation of lighting systems.
- Well-developed computer skills including a proven ability to use and operate corporate software systems including industry event management and roster systems.
- Extensive understanding of production requirements of the performing arts and entertainment industry and a demonstrated flair for creative production lighting designs.
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities within a fast-paced, dynamic, changing environment and delivering problem-solving solutions under pressure.
- A sound understanding of relevant WH&S principles and requirements related to the Venue and Events Industry.
- Excellent leadership, management and communication skills.
