About the role
Responsible for the Deputy Heads of Lighting and all casual or seasonal lighting staff, OA’s Head of Lighting will aim to establish safe and smooth operations of the Lighting Department across installation, rehearsal, and performance periods for all productions. 

Key areas of focus

  • Inspire, motivate, and engage the team to bring the interpretation of the design to action
  • Communicate a clear plan and vision of success
  • Liaise with and be first point of contact for suppliers including but not limited to lighting supplies, equipment hire, and crew for hire companies
  • Organize and direct your team including any forward planning for the Lighting department
  • Relighting ongoing repertory productions and adapting to new digital lighting rig for original repertory productions, ensuring compliance to safety standards
  • Collaborate with the Production Manager and department Heads and Supervisors to roster staff and develop work schedules
  • Reporting and feedback including but not limited to event/venue documentation, incident reporting, WHS documentation

Key Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as Head of Department or equivalent with experience in relighting, adapting productions, and dealing with interconnected systems
  • Experience in the theatre or festival context desirable
  • Practical knowledge of various lighting desk operation
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and direct creative and technical personnel and performers 
  • Remain flexible and adaptable while working toward the bigger picture
  • Ability to problem solve and develop the skills of your team
  • Have an understanding of WHS practices
