Brisbane Powerhouse is Queensland’s home for contemporary culture, a magnificent power station of the 1920s reborn as an arts centre on the Brisbane River. We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Head of Lighting to continue delivering exceptional lighting options to our diverse range of performance and corporate clients. With over 1,250 performances and events each year, we are one of the busiest arts venues in the Asia-Pacific region. To enable us to offer this extensive program we require a fast paced, adaptable technical team where our leaders’ expertise is invaluable in creating a high performance culture.
While this role is as varied as our program, the key responsibilities of this role include:
* Managing the provision of theatrical lighting services, technical advice and related support and planning within the theatrical and functions spaces
* Programming and operating all venue installed lighting desks, dimmer racks, patch systems, DMX distribution systems and infrastructure
* In collaboration with the Technical Team, assist in the provision of a casual technical team, providing support in recruitment, assessment and staff development
* In partnership with the Production Manager, supervise and provide advice on troubleshooting to casual lighting staff to enable efficient bump in, season and bump out
* Work with Finance and the Technical Director to develop and manage the lighting operational budget and expenditure
* Assist the Technical Director to ensure all relevant Work Health and Safety procedures are adhered to by resident, visiting and casual technical staff
* Assist the Technical Director to ensure all technical equipment operates effectively and all equipment is compliant with relevant Work Health and Safety legislation.
Our ideal candidate will be a clear communicator with the ability to share industry knowledge and skills with both peers and the casual crew. In addition they will have:
* A minimum of seven years relevant venue experience in a theatre company, multi arts venue, major festival or entertainment environment coupled with a trade qualification in lighting, stage and/or production services
* Demonstrated knowledge of the Entertainment, Functions and Convention Industry from a technical production perspective
* An ability to design, rig, operate and maintain theatrical lighting to a high professional standard
* Demonstrated ability to operate MA Lighting, Strand and ETC theatrical lighting consoles with a sound knowledge of moving light control and installation
* Competency in information technology systems and processes as they relate to DMX and other lighting protocol distribution
* Analytical and problem solving skills with ability to develop technical ideas from concept to completion and to effectively manage competing priorities and commitments
* An ability to work to a flexible time schedule when required.
