About the vacancy

The Production Department is a service provider to shows and events being held within the Adelaide Festival Centre venues and beyond.  The department comprises of; Staging, Lighting, Sound, Wardrobe, Stage Management and Production Coordinators.

Adelaide Festival Centre is looking for a Production Professional to effectively lead and manage the AFC Staging Department as a Head of Department (HoD). Staging provide a high level of expertise and customer service to clients. Reporting to the Director, Technical and Production, the HoD Staging responsibility is to effectively lead and manage the AFC Staging team. The role sets and leads culture, provides leadership, training and mentoring to the staging team as well as managing the staging requirements and facilities within the Centre’s four performing venues. Relevant qualifications in management, entertainment or technical theatre and previous experience in a similar role will be looked upon favourably.

This role is available in a full-time capacity for a period of three years.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Staging department operations, including negotiating and providing adequate resource allocation for all requirements.
  • Develop weekly rosters adhering to all legal WHS & EA requirements
  • Assist the production coordinators with technical advice
  • Identify training needs in the department and provide advice and guidance
  • Conduct regular performance reviews with staff including performance management
  • Develop maintenance schedules to ensure all plant and equipment are in reasonable working order
  • Attend all production meetings as the representative of the department
  • Act as liaison with internal and external customers; attend production meetings Provide cost effective technical advice and design solutions. Advise and implement technical products for internal and external customers.

Competencies and Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a challenging work environment with an ability topromote team spirit and mentor staff.
  • Rostering experience within a large Arts organisation
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Experience working as a Senior team leader or supervisor
  • Significant demonstrated understanding of staging in a live performance environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships
  • Outstanding organisational & planning skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Project management skills
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the entertainment industry, its terminology, traditions and protocol
  • Work experience within equivalent Arts Centre/Venue
  • Experience working as a Senior team leader or supervisor
