About the vacancy
Finishing off the 2019 schedule strongly and commencing the preparation of the 2020 program, AFCT is looking for a Production professional to lead the Lighting Department.
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Head of Department – Lighting will be responsible for effectively and efficiently managing the AFCT lighting department to a world class standard and for providing exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders. This role is accountable for ensuring the effective delivery of equipment and technicians to support stage performance requirements, leading and executing the purchasing and maintenance of AFCT’s lighting equipment across four busy venues, and for servicing the requirements of AFCT’s annual season of programmed and venue hire productions.
Relevant qualifications in management or technical theatre and previous experience in a similar role will be looked upon favourably.
This role is available in a full-time capacity for a period of three years

Responsibilities
- Manage lighting department operations by meeting and negotiating with external hirers needs
- Develop weekly rosters adhering to all legal WHS & EB requirements
- Assist the production coordinators with technical advice
- Identify training needs in the department and provide advice and guidance
- Conduct performance reviews with staff
- Develop maintenance schedules to ensure all plant and equipment are in reasonable working order
- Attend all production meetings as the representative of the department
- Act as liaison with internal and external customers and provide cost effective technical advice and design solutions

- Rostering experience within a large arts organisation

- Excellent communications & interpersonal skills
- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships
- Outstanding organisational & planning skills and ability to meet deadlines

- Advanced computing skills including Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook; CAD, WYSIWYG or similar computer drawing s
- Demonstrated decision making
