Head Mechanist – Frozen the Musical

Disney Theatrical Productions (Australia) is seeking an experienced and detail-orientated theatre professional to fill the role of Head Mechanist on Frozen the Musical.  The successful candidate must have experience leading a team in a technical/mechanist department, at the standard of a first-class, live theatrical production, with strong technical skills, an approachable manner, the ability to work under pressure, effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Candidate must be prepared to commit to touring with the production.

Reporting
Daily reporting to the Technical Director, and when required to the Company Manager and other personnel designated by the Producer.

Previous Experience
The applicant should have at least three (3) years’ experience in a technical/mechanist department in live theatre, preferably as a Deputy or Head of Department, and have detailed knowledge in automated and manual scenery movements. Carpentry skills will be highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities
Without limitation of the following, Employee’s services shall include:

Organising and supervising rehearsal and production requirements;

Working closely with the Australian technical team to gain first-hand knowledge and understanding of the Production;

Participating in the set up & load out of the physical production, in each city it performs in;

Ensuring that all technical aspects of the set are maintained and presented at performances to the highest professional standards;

Supervising and managing a Deputy Head Mechanist and local crew;

Participating in maintenance duties, as required, and performance duties eight (8) shows a week;

Assisting with technical documentation for the Production including preparation of technical plots, running sheets and information required by venues;

Ensuring the smooth and cost effective operation of the department, with a focus on safe and effective outcomes to daily challenges;

Complying and managing staff’s compliance with the rules and regulations in force at venues;

Maintaining all maintenance and safety records as required by Company Management or the Technical Director;

Attending all meetings, rehearsals, performances and other calls when required to by the Technical Director or Company Management.
