The Head Electrician will establish safe and smooth operation of the Lighting Department though the installation, rehearsal and performance periods. They will be required to supervise local crew and coordinate the day to day activities of the department. The successful candidate will be required to undertake significant travel beyond Sydney as part of a Tour.
Key areas of focus
- Maintaining the artistic integrity of the Lighting Design; coordinating maintenance and repairs as required.
- Set-up lighting equipment for performances, both as part of a team and individually, involving manual handling and working at heights.
- When required, liaise and direct staff from the contracting lighting equipment supply company.
- Coordinating truck packs including the loading and unloading of lighting equipment.
- Leading a department whilst interpreting directions and ideas from the Lighting Designer and Production Manager.
- Developing work schedules for local crew.
- Work productively with the touring crew, including staff from each regional venue.
- Supervise technical secondments and interns as required
- Attend production and staff meetings and implement requests from these meetings as directed.
- Participate in event and venue documentation, including fault reporting and consumable requirements.
- Communicate direction and a clear vision of success.
- Share ideas and information in a timely manner following processes.
Our ideal candidate will have
- Demonstrated experience working as a Head of Lighting or equivalent for a minimum of two years
- Experience managing the lighting requirements of a theatre or festival site
- Ability to manage small and large teams of production staff and contractors ensuring schedules and safety standards are met
- Excellent organisation and communication skills, written and verbal
- Demonstrate ability to work with creative and technical personnel and performers
- Practical knowledge of electrical systems including management of power loadings
- Practical knowledge on the operation of various lighting desks
