Seeing as the guys from Mandylights seem to work exclusively with MA Lighting consoles these days, the decision was made to purchase some of their own in the form of two grandMA2 light consoles.
“The grandMA2 consoles have really become the international standard console on the touring circuit and there is always one available wherever you go,” said Richard Neville, director at Mandylights. “We’re also supplying control on a number of our own shows back in Australia and we also have our studio for preprogramming, so it got to that stage where it just made sense to purchase our own console.
“We then decided to buy two to ensure that we’d never be in a situation where we didn’t have a backup console available.”
The main features of the MA2 light consoles that Richard favours are their physical size and the screens.
“The MA2 light, with its two screens, still has more screen real estate then the full size grandMA1,” he remarked. “They are very transportable and don’t take up much space.”
The grandMA2 light has 4,096 parameters, 15 motorized executor faders and two touchscreens available. All further features and controls are identical to those on the grandMA2 full-size.
With Mandylights currently supplying continual design and operation for artists such as the Backstreet Boys, Taio Cruz and Ricky Martin amongst others, the purchase of an international-standard console means that both festival and touring shows can easily be advanced in the company’s Sydney studio before the team travel to wherever they are needed.
Closer to home, the consoles complete Mandylights’ control inventory which now includes several media servers, over two hundred universes of Artnet distribution and a huge amount of both wired and wireless networking for large projects.
